The Philosophy of: Jeff Buckley

The wealthiest person is a pauper at times,
Compared to the man with a satisfied mind.

(from Satisfied Mind)

This is not the most well-known cover that Jeff Buckley recorded, but one thing this guy did amazingly well was to give a cover an unforgettable, Jeff Buckley-ey feel.

He recorded it for a radio session in 1992 and it was also played at his funeral.

I’d love to know how he felt looking back on his own life in the minutes, hours and days before that night he died in Tennessee in 1997, but there’s a deep sense of connection in this song. And even though he didn’t write this, and it was 5 years before his death, I’m just going to go ahead and guess that he actually left the world that way – with a satisfied mind.

Here are all the words:

——-

Satisfied Mind

How Many Times, Have you Heard Someone Say,
If I Had Money, I Would Do Things My Way.
But Little They Know, That It’s So Hard To Find
One Rich Man In Ten, With A Satisfied Mind.

Money Can’t Buy Back, All Your Youth When Your Old
A Friend When Your Lonely, Or Peace To Your Soul
The Wealthiest Person, Is A Pauper At Times
Compared To The Man, With a Satisfied Mind.

When My Life Is Over, And My Time Has Run Out,
My Friends and My Lovers, I Will Leave, Theres No Doubt
But One Things For Certain, When It Comes My Time
I’ll Leave This Old World With A Satisfied Mind
But One Things For Certain, When It Comes My Time, Oh Yeah
I’ll Leave This Old World With A Satisfied Mind mind mind, mind mind,
Satisfied Mind.
